Brooke grabbed some sheet music from her music folder and glanced over it with dismay. There were just no pieces that were challenging enough for her. It was just music that any human could sing. Oh well, she thought, at least I can make it sound more interesting than it's written.
"Alright, class," the choir director, Mrs. Faye, shouted over the class, "let's work on the first song."
Everyone in the room stood, holding out their sheet music. Brooke hadn't really ever done any singing in this class before. She just mouthed the lyrics. Sure, she had been caught singing outside of class, out of habit, but if she actually sang, it would be a dead giveaway that she was a siren, then everyone would avoid her. The boys would fear being drowned, the girls would fear losing their boyfriends. So, Brooke decided to keep quiet.
Until today.
Today was the perfect time to sing.
